The Conure (meaning'cone tail') is a large parakeet native to Central and South America. They are closely related to the macaw and show a striking resemblance to this larger breed. They are relatively small compared to other parrots. In fact, they are approximately twelve and a half inches in length. Their colouring is extremely beautiful and depending on which Latin American county they originate from, Conures can be found in shades of grey, white, red and orange mixed with green. The Conure’s beak always has a small cere and is usually black.

Conures are energetic, playful and affectionate. Some tend to attach themselves to one person only where as others are more outgoing and welcoming. The Conure can often seem to be moody and can be reserved with people they don't know. Most Conures are very noisy birds; therefore it is advised to warn your neighbours before welcoming this bird into your home.

Overall, Conures are affectionate entertainers who are great fun and wonderful companions. Conures diet mainly consists of fruit, Seeds, cacti fruit, berries and other greens. Most Conures reach maturity at around 1 to 3 years and they can expect to live around 15 to 35 years.
