Macaws are a type of parrot found in Mexico, Central America, South America, and formerly the Caribbean. They are generally around 85cm long with a 50cm tail. Macaws are usually blue on the crown, nape, back, wings and top of tail and golden yellow on the underside of the tail.
The extremely intelligent Macaw will require an owner who is able to provide the necessary mental and physical stimulation to keep them happy. They often bond closely with one or two family members and can be reserved
with strangers. Macaws can live up to 60 years old, so the decision to welcome a young bird into your home should not be taken lightly.
Macaws are excellent talkers. However, constant training is required to prevent them from becoming excessively loud and disruptive. They should have access to stimulating toys and chews at all time and they should not be left alone for long periods of time.
