Bird information homepage

Parrots are exotic birds with hooked beaks. They have a strong curved bill, an upright stance, strong legs, and clawed feet perfect for gripping branches. Most Parrots are predominantly green, with other bright colours including reds, blues, yellows and oranges. They are probably the most popular group of pet bird available today. Their beautiful patterns and kind temperaments are surely what make them so desirable. There are many types of Parrot, all ranging in size and characteristics: Lories and LorikeetsCockatiels, Macaws, Lovebirds, Conures and Parakeets are just a small selection of Parrot species.

The largest of the Parrot species is the Hyacinth Macaw, which is found in South America. The smallest is the Buff-faced Pygmy Parrot, which is found in and around Papua New Guinea.

Parrots are highly intelligent and must never be underestimated. Time must be taken when selecting a pet Parrot as they can live for a considerable time. In fact, the smallest Budgie can live to be 15 years old and the largest Macaw or Cockatoo can live to be well over 80 years old.

Most Parrots are extremely messy. This is a natural behaviour driven by the Parrots instincts. In their natural habitats, Parrots consume only part of their food and throw the rest to the floor. Unfortunately they see no difference between the jungle floor and your new carpet.
