Cat information homepage

General
Description: Short coat with agouti colour pattern
Size: Abyssinians are medium sized
Weight: 4 - 7 kg

Characteristics
Abyssinians are very active and playful cats, are very extroverted and always curious about their surroundings. They have a well balanced temperament and a strong independent personality. The very loving and gentle Abyssinian will require considerable attention and despises being alone. This athletic hunter will require lots of exercise so a garden is highly desirable.

Grooming
The Abyssinian will require a weekly brush. When they are moulting, all dead and loose hairs must be removed more regularly. If the cat will tolerate it, you can bath them using an appropriate feline shampoo.

History
Abyssinians have been known in the UK since the 1900’s. This is an old cat breed and is thought to have been imported into the UK from Abyssinia (now Ethiopia). It is possible that the Abyssinian is directly descended from the sacred cats of ancient Egypt. A long haired variety of the Abyssinian known as the Somali has been recognised in recent years.
