General Description: Powerful, well balanced breed Size: Medium to large Weight: 3.5 - 7 kg Characteristics American Shorthairs have a very calm and easy going disposition. They are very playful, energetic and sociable. American Shorthairs are excellent hunters and are therefore made for the great outdoors. However, they can adapt to indoor living. The American Shorthair can become very attached to their owners and will give plenty of affection. Grooming The American Shorthair will require a weekly brush to keep their coat in good shape. The amount of grooming will need to increase during the shedding season. History Shorthairs were originally kept for their hunting ability and because they require minimal grooming. The American / British Shorthair goes back to the Roman times and it is thought that the invading Roman soldiers were the first to bring this breed into Britain. Shorthairs are available in a variety of different colours, the most obvious example being the ‘blue’.
