They are playful and sociable. American Wirehairs are excellent hunters and have lots of energy. Although they can adapt to indoor living, a garden in which to exercise is preferred. The American Wirehair can be very affectionate and tend to become attached to their owners. Grooming The American Wirehair will not require large amounts of grooming. A weekly brush to keep there coat in good shape will be plenty. This will need to increase during the shedding season. History The American Wirehair is a domestic wirehaired cat. They have a very unique wiry coat that is not dissimilar to the Devon Rex. However, despite what some may think, the American Wirehair has a very differing gene set to that of the Rex.
