Grooming During shedding season the Chartreux sheds heavily and will require daily brushing. History The Charteux is one of the oldest cat breeds. It is thought that this breed originated in France in the 16th century. The name Chartreux describes its dense woolly coat that resembles an old Spanish wool fabric called Chartreux pile. The breed is recognised by both the CFA and TISA.
