General Description: Muscular but elegant body, long coat Size: Norwegian Forest Cats are medium to large Weight: 4 - 8 kg Characteristics The Norwegian Forest Cat is a very independent and lively breed. This cat loves the outdoors and is an excellent hunter. Although outdoor access is preferred, this cat can adapt easily to indoor life. The Norwegian Forest Cat grows extremely attached to their owner and is a very affectionate and loving pet. This breed is an excellent climber and is able to get to heights that most breeds would be unable to reach. Grooming The Norwegian Forest Cat has a thick waterproof coat which will require a weekly brush. During shedding season this breed will need daily grooming with a soft brush. History The Norwegian Forest Cat looks very similar to the Maine Coon. The breed was developed in the cold climate of Northern Scandinavia. The Norwegian Forest Cat has been seen at shows in Norway since the Second World War but wasn’t recognised by the FIFe until the late 1970’s. This breed is extremely popular in the USA and is relatively new in the UK.
