General
Description: Solid and muscular, long coat
Size: The Siberian is a large breed
Weight: 4.5 - 9 kg

Characteristics
The Siberian is a very stocky breed that exudes strength. They are very friendly towards other cats and even dogs. They get along with children and tend to be very affectionate towards their owners. The Siberian has a strong personality and can be highly active at times. They just love to climb and are excellent jumpers. A garden is preferred to help fulfil the Siberian's natural hunting instinct. However, they can adapt to indoor life.

Grooming
Although the Siberian has a long coat, they are relatively easy to groom. This is because their coat resists matting. A weekly brush is sufficient. However, during shedding season, brushing daily with a soft brush is required.

History
The Siberian originated in Russia and its thick, weather proof coat is adapted for the harsh native climates. The breed was recognised by the FIFe in the late 1990’s, followed by the TICA around the same time. This breed is popular in the United States and relatively uncommon throughout the rest of the world.
