General Description: Elegant and muscular with a short coat Size: The Snowshoe is medium sized Weight: 3 - 5.5 kg Characteristics The Snowshoe is a very sweet natured breed. They are extremely active and have a strong personality, due to the combination of their Siamese and American Shorthair ancestory. The Snowshoe is thought by some to be a perfect pet. They get along well with other cats and have a very strong hunting instinct. They are less demanding than a Siamese but more talkative than an American Shorthair. Grooming The Snowshoe does not require a great deal of maintenance and a weekly groom with a soft brush is sufficient. History The Snowshoe originated in the United States in the early 1960’s and was created by crossing a Siamese with an American Shorthair. The Snowshoe looks like a stocky Siamese with white paws. The breed is sometimes referred to as a short haired Birman, although it does not share any genetic links with the breed. Although the Snowshoe is quite common in the United States, the breed is still uncommon throughout the rest of the world. The TICA recognised the breed in the 1980’s.
