General Description: Sturdy strong body with a thick, flat coat Height: 46 - 43cm Weight: 18 - 25kg Colour: White with liver or black Retriever group Temperament The English Springer Spaniel is an alert, friendly and loyal companion. This very quick learner just loves human company and is an excellent watch dog. They love water and tend to constantly get themselves wet and dirty. They are good with other dogs and family pets, except birds (for obvious reasons). They can become destructive if left alone for long periods of time and unfortunately some are prone to an inherited behavioural disorder ‘Rage Syndrome’. It is recommended to ask the breeder whether any of the pup’s relatives were affected. Exercise English Springer Spaniels have boundless energy and require regular physical exercise. A twice daily walk for around 30 – 40 minutes is sufficient. Most of this dogs exercise should be off the lead. The English Springer Spaniel has great stamina and can work in all kinds of weather and on difficult terrain for hours without tiring. Grooming Medium maintenance is required. Check ears regularly for signs of infection. Health Welsh Springer Spaniels are generally of good health but can be prone to ear infections, skin problems and some eye problems. Also elbow and hip dysplasia can be a problem with this breed. Life Expectancy 12 – 14 years History One of the largest of the spaniels, the English Springer Spaniel was once known as the Norfolk Spaniel and is the founder of all the English hunting spaniels. The name comes from the fact that the breed is talented at searching and "springing" hidden game. The tail wags faster when they discover the game. This breed became popular in America during the in 1700’s.
