This playful dog is always ready to receive affection or fool around with their owners. This breed is very intelligent and can be trained easily. The Tibetan Terrier is a great watchdog and will alert their master by growling and standing firmly towards any approaching stranger. The Tibetan Terrier likes to dig and search for vermin, so it is not wise to leave them unsupervised in your beautifully landscaped garden. This breed can be a chaser and should not be left with small fleeing animals. Exercise The Tibetan Terrier will get most of the exercise required by running around the garden. However a daily walk for around 20 – 40 minutes is recommended. Grooming A regular groom with a firm bristle brush is recommended. The Tibetan Terrier‘s coat can become a bit of a matted mess if not groomed regularly enough. Bathe around once a month. Health The Tibetan Terrier is generally of very good health but can suffer from eye diseases. Life Expectancy 12 – 15 years History The Tibetan Terrier was not known outside of Tibet until around 80 years ago. Originally bred by Tibetan monks, the breed was thought to be “lucky” and was never sold. The only way to get your hands on a Tibetan Terrier was if you were given one as a gift. The breed has been used as an all purpose farming dog. Despite its name, the Tibetan Terrier does not have many Terrier traits and does not dig into burrows looking for prey. This breed is thought to have contributed to the development of other breeds including the Shih-Tzu to the Lhasa Apso. Tibetan Terrier’s are now recognised throughout the world by all major dog clubs. They are mostly used today as lovable companions.
