Most of this dogs exercise should be off the lead. The Welsh Springer has great stamina and can work in all kinds of weather and on difficult terrain for hours without tiring. Health Welsh Springer Spaniels are generally of good health but can be prone to ear infections, some eye problems and hip dysplasia. Life Expectancy 12 – 15 years History The Welsh Springer Spaniel originated in Wales and is of similar genetic stock as the English Springer Spaniel. Many early documents mention a "Welsh Cocker," which might have been today’s Welsh Springer Spaniel. The Welsh and English Springer Spaniels became separate breed types just before the 1900’s. The name comes from the fact that the breed is talented at searching and "springing" hidden game. The tail wags faster when they discover the game. It is necessary to give this breed constant training from a young age, as they have a tendency to wander too far from the hunt field.
