General
Weight: Ranges from as little as 2kg up to 5.5 kg
Description: There are four types of officially recognised Angora rabbit breeds; English, French, Giant and Satin, within which there are several further distinct varieties. All of the breeds are bred for their long, soft hair that sits in abundant, woolly tufts all over the English, the Giant and the German in particular.

Characteristics
The English is the smallest of the breeds, whilst the Giant is naturally the largest, yet all are gentle and docile as domesticated animals and particularly attractive due to their incredibly soft and luxurious wool. The Satin is so-named due to the texture of its wool; it does not produce as much of it, however, as other breeds of the Angora rabbit.

Grooming
This rabbit needs a lot of personal attention; the English breed must be groomed twice a week due to the very thick nature of its wool. For those who want less upkeep in this department, the Satin Angora rabbit, a cross between a Satin and a French Angora, is much easier to groom, since the wool is much more contained and much shorter.

History
This rabbit originates from Ankara, Turkey and is one of the oldest types of domesticated rabbit, popular in particular with French royalty of the mid 1700s. It wasn’t until the 1900s that the Angora rabbit appeared in the United States, where commercialisation of the wool they produced continued after having spread successfully from England over most of Europe and to countries such as Japan.
