Characteristics

Contrastingly to what its name might suggest, the Belgian is in fact a rabbit and not a hare. It proves a very affectionate, energetic and good-natured animal and is one of the most intelligent rabbits. Due to its speed and size, however, it is not really ideal for children and is a specialist breed.

Grooming
The Belgian Hare thrives best with a companion, and requires a considerable amount of space for it to fully exercise to keep healthy and fit. As with other rabbits, it is important to give them toys or objects to chew on, play with and climb on. They also like to have a form of lookout post, which can easily be fashioned using cardboard boxes. The rabbit hutch should be cleaned out weekly, ensuring that all old scraps of food are removed.

History
This rabbit originates from Flanders, a geographical region that is located in areas of present-day Belgium, Netherlands and France.
