Continental Giants Rabbit
Back to rabbit information homepage
General
Weight: Between 6 and 8kg
Description: A brownish-grey body, often tinged with blue. Very muscular, a broad and bold head, large ears with rounded ends. The
Continental Giant
white breed is also common.
Characteristics
The Continental Giant rabbit must be handled a lot from a young age to ensure that it remains good-natured and is thus responsive when medicine needs to be administered or it needs to be picked up. If it is allowed to get bored through little exercise and attention it can become impatient and even a little nippy.
Grooming
Due to their size, these giant rabbits require a lot of space to exercise and to live in; a hutch or even a multi-storey hutch is not really ideal as these larger rabbits find negotiating stairs much harder than their smaller relatives. Much attention must be paid to the health of the larger breeds of rabbit, since they are more prone to problems with their eyes, teeth and mobility due to the extra pressure on their joints. They also find cleaning themselves more difficult than smaller rabbits, so much care must be taken to avoid them ingesting fur balls.
History
This breed of rabbit originates from Continental Europe.
