Back to rabbit information homepage
General
Weight: 2.5 - 3.5 kg
Description: short and muscular, fiery red in colour with black ‘mackereling’, hair shorter on head, ears and legs compared with the rest of it’s body.
Characteristics
Deilenaar rabbits are a friendly, but lively rabbit usually suitable to be a household pet.
Grooming
The Deilenaar rabbit requires brushing at least once a week with a brush that is rabbit orientated. During shedding seasons the Deilenaar rabbit may require brushing more often.
History
The Deilenaar rabbit was developed in the town of Dell in Holland by Mr. G.W.A. Ridderhof during the 1930s. It is thought that the New Zealand Red,
Flemish Giant
, Chinchilla and
Tans
were used to create this very rare breed. The
Belgian Hare
may also have been responsible for the rich, lustrous coat colour.
