Back to rabbit information homepage
General
Weight: 500g – 1.6kg
Description: disproportionately large heads, very small, erect ears, round and short faces, appear in a variety of colours
Characteristics
The Netherland Dwarf rabbit usually makes an excellent pet. They are friendly and sociable animals with a tolerant and docile personality.
Grooming
New Zealand Dwarf rabbits require brushing at least once a week to keep their coat healthy and to prevent them from ingesting hair.
History
Contrary to its name, the New Zealand Dwarf rabbit actually originated in America. It was originally bred for meat and fur by W.S Preshaw in 1916. They have a genetic deviation called ‘albinism’ which is responsible for the New Zealand rabbits white fur and pink eyes.
