Ok, so maybe Roger Rabbit isn't quite as endearing as the other three and is probably a lot more irritating, but you know what we're trying to say. Everyone loves rabbits and if you don't then there must be a black hole where your heart is meant to be. Rabbits are cute, energetic and affectionate and contrary to what you might think, are very intelligent. Like any pet, a little bit of research before buying if you don't have any experience owning a rabbit, goes a long, long way.

It's often best to buy a rabbit from a breeder rather than a pet shop, making adflyer one of the best places to begin your search. Rabbits from breeders have often been specially selected so that a lot of positive traits are passed down the generations. Rabbits also enjoy the company of other rabbits, though some owners often place rabbits with guinea pigs. However, another rabbit would be best as the size differences can sometimes be a problem.

There are substantial costs for a first time rabbit buyer, including the hutch, food, vet bills and maybe even a rabbit run if your rabbit is not safe to freely roam the garden, which is often the case with the danger of wild predators such as foxes and even domestic animals like pet cats. Of course, there is always the option to keep your rabbit indoors. House rabbits are a popular choice, especially when the winter months are approaching. However, this may not be any less costly as your home will need thorough rabbit proofing. This means covering all loose wires, safely locking away any chemical or toxic products and ensuring your rabbit can't get itself stuck inside any nook and cranny. You will also need to train your rabbit to use a litter tray!

Pet rabbits can vary in size quite dramatically, too, so think carefully about what is appropriate for the particular breed you are buying. Most, if not all, rabbit breeds can be indoor rabbits, but if you choose the outdoor option, a decent sized rabbit hut is essential. You don't want to have to buy another hutch when your darling little mini lop outgrows the first one. Be very aware of how big your pet rabbit is going to get.
